Interfaith Council
The West End Interfaith Council—is a coalition of West End and Westview faith leaders committed to enhancing the well-being of our commercial districts through shared leadership, dialogue, and purposeful action. They will examine the possibilities of solutions to address the homeless population and to educate the greater community about the challenges, progress, services available to both the unhoused to and the resident/ business owners to mitigate tensions.
This initiative is a part of the WEMC Business Watch Program which promotes the safety and well-being of the business corridor’s lived environment. While the physical components of the BW program focuses on crime and cleanliness for businesses to attract and service their customers, we are painfully aware that special consideration must be given to those that share our streets as homeless individuals. The balance of finding solutions is difficult and vast with varying and often extreme opposite points of view.
This is a critical area where faith-based collaboration can be especially impactful. Nearly all West End and Westview places of worship have or have had outreach programs and experience interacting with unhoused individuals. By working together, these organizations can amplify their efforts and lead a compassionate, coordinated response to one of our community’s most visible and urgent challenges.
